Price Difference Tremendous Over Years TimeMany $600 a year or more Now Only $40Research to 4-8-08 My Conclusions Harlan Jacobsen-Copyright © 2008 Example; The Price Difference, For Diabetics, The most popular Diabetic Drug, Glucophage, I just called, Walgreen's, 500mg, 60 tablets, for twice a day, brand name, one months supply $56.99. It is my understanding that if the doctor prescribed "Glucophage" regardless of what the pharmacy tells you, that they are giving you the lowest price, they can not substitute a generic Metformin version unless the doctor specifically approves the change. This is why you have to ask either the doctor yourself. to change your prescription or authorize the pharmacist to contact your doctor to ask for approval to change your prescription to the generic version, Metformin. Metformin, the generic version was $19.99. for 60 tablets when I asked, With your insurance paying $15.00 it would then cost you $5. This is why Walgreens were reported to be telling stockholders that they are not losing a lot of sales to Walmart and Target with the $4 price program, is because the customer is only saving $1 out of pocket with co-pay. It is obvious the insurance company is the one still taking the hit. The real beneficiary of the new program is the person with no co-pay, and likes the $4. much better then the $19.99. Editors Note:.... Gougaphage, is a Tradename, and if your doctor writtes that on you prescription and marks it no substitution you are stuck for $56 a month. You should certainly be able to get your doctor to okay a switch to Metformin if your pharmacist calls. Both this version and the Generic are also available at the 1000 mg size at NO EXTRA cost. Get these specified instead and use your pill splitter (go here and read pill splitter $5 device) you can cut them in two and get two months for $4 dollars or the new Walmart etc price 3 months for ten upped to six months for $10. using your pill splitter and the request for your doctor to specify the larger size to be listed on the prescription. Click here to open Pill Splitter article Before you read this, maybe you were paying $56 a month, x6 =$338.00, now six months for $10. Pays to read our stuff. Reminder, Metformin is proven as effective or more effective as any of the new much more expensive medications that get all the hype. Also, it was banned in the US for some time and is still banned many places because it does have bad side affects, you should read up on. We suggest working to get your blood sugar under control without and get off all medications with your doctors approval as soon as you can.
