Expanding their $4 for 30 days program. Now an option of $10 for a 90-day supply.Research to 4-8-08 My Conclusions Harlan Jacobsen-Copyright © 2008 Since 2006, when Wal-Mart's Florida’s stores started this original $4 for 30 days generic drugs program (apparently from political pressure by the Florida legislature over high costs of uninsured Walmart employees,) ( see our article elsewhere ) this discount public program has not only taken off the political pressure in Florida, it has worked so well, since then they have expanded the program (many other states were making similar noises) to every state, except North Dakota, where Wal-Mart has no in-store pharmacies. The program was well received by the public and Walmart says the program has already saved customers nationwide, more than $1 billion. Target joined in the Generic $4 discount program almost immediately back in 2006 and is again matching the offerings with similar $10 for 90 days. Matching the Walmart third phase in its stores. Recently Krogers, Giant, Hy Vee, Frys Safeway, Osco and many company competitors have followed the retailer's lead and joined the fray apparently setting off this third phase at Walmart.Walgreens is trailing with a $12.99 rate and a $20 membership fee. Therefore with these others joining the $4 Generics, Walmarts makes a new offer of $10 for 90 day PRESCRIPTIONS and has already had competitors follow and most match it with nearly identical lists of Generic drugs. Editors Note: According to www.rxlist.com, the Walmart list of generic drugs includes 14 of the top 20 prescribed medications in the United States.
